WE ARE ON A QUEST TO REVOLUTIONIZE THE FITNESS INDUSTRY
Mimi and Jason fell in love on the bike! After meeting at an L.A. cycling studio in early 2003—and about 1000 classes later—they got hitched in 2008.
Both fitness fanatics from a young age, their love of hard-core training blossomed into a desire to do something special with their shared passion. Bitten with the cycling bug in '96, by 2007 Mimi had mastered the training medium and was itching for something more intense. On her quest, she ventured into heated yoga rooms and found that the added element of heat provided not only an increased challenge but also a satisfying feeling of sweaty detox. But it wasn't enough to satisfy her itch.
Then, one day in 2009, the AC broke while she was riding at a local cycling studio. The room got very warm, and Mimi was drenched by the end of class. This was her epiphany! The seeds of The Sweat Shoppe were planted. That night, she could barely contain her excitement while explaining her idea to Jason, who thought it sounded crazy—and wonderful!
Mimi's knack for business, coupled with Jason's talent as an indoor cycling instructor, made them want to create a type of indoor cycling studio like no other: one with strong brand identity and no gimmicks—pure cycling classes with the added, healthy intensity of heat. After extensive research, the two discovered that heat training was a tool unlike any other in the industry. Studies proved that training in the heat can boost athletic performance across the board, developing athletes who can ride longer, harder, and faster. Heat-training rigorously works the mental as much as the physical, forcing an athlete to remain focused while strengthening the mind-body connection.
