Amy Carlos
3 things you don’t know about me:
- I’m the youngest of 3 kids and I’m the only girl - it makes sense in my love of sports. My parents are still married and the five of us are extremely tight. We’re spread out over 3000 miles, but we talk and visit as regularly as we can. In fact, I talk to my mom, Donna, on my way to work every Monday thru Friday morning.
- I am an avid scrapbooker. Out of left field, right? I’ve learned that in memories, there is love - and I want to preserve as much of that love as I can.
- I’m incredibly clumsy. While I’m pretty athletic, the amount of times that I trip over my own feet, fall up the stairs, spill food/drinks, and fall flat on my butt would shock you.
What makes my class unique?
The feeling that you’re part of a team, and I’m your coach. I constantly remind that we are all in it together, and that will push us to work harder than we think we can. I almost guarantee you’ll probably hear some music in my class that you won’t in others – and you’ll leave feeling like an athlete.
What i love to play in class:
I’m very driven by lyrics, so a lot of what I play has strong lyrics. But I’ve become more aware of the importance of the beat recently. If a track straight up jams, I’m going to play it. I tend toward rock & alternative music, but my inner gangster gets her hip hop fix regularly, as well. I always love to have a lot of variety in every playlist, and I try to keep my riders guessing.
My favorite artist is and why:
I’m a big hippie, so I love jam bands. You’ll probably never hear it in a class (other than in the cool down – because I haven’t figured out where to use them yet), but my favorite of all time is a band called Dispatch. I heard them my freshman year of college and have been amazed ever since. In terms of a favorite artists to ride to – it’s definitely The Beastie Boys, Muse, and Rusted Root.
On my free time you’ll find me…
Spending quality time with my wonderful husband, George; sitting on my couch watching way too much TV with Mr. Chaplin (my cat), playing lacrosse with my post-collegiate team, reading books (especially if they’re written for teenagers), on the phone with my mother, or just hanging out with good friends. I have a full time job in addition to teaching, so free time is very minimal.
What i love about teaching:
I’m a bit of a control freak, so I love that I get the privilege of creating the ride. And as I always have with coaching – I love seeing that “lightbulb” moment on a rider’s face. The moment everything I’ve been teaching them finally makes sense. I mostly just love to ride – and getting to share that love with others is the icing on the cake.
My friends call me:
Coach. Crazy. Goalie. Amer, Ames. Lavoie. Amy Vail. My parents still call me Tootsie Pop.
Amy’s Teaching Schedule:
Wednesdays & Fridays at 6:15am, Saturdays at 12pm
