3 THINGS YOU DON’T KNOW ABOUT ME:

1.In June, 2012, I started a baking business, “Intellibaker”-a play on my last name-which I run alongside my Family Law Practice.

2.My mom is from St. Petersburg and my dad is from Kiev. Although I was born in Los Angeles, my first language was Russian.

3.I’m a huge hockey fan…like HUGE.

WHAT MAKES MY CLASS UNIQUE:

Occasionally, I like to crack jokes and tell stories to distract riders and shift their focus.

WHAT I LOVE TO PLAY IN CLASS:

I think it’s really important for the musical selection to span the genre gamut to accommodate all musical tastes. While one will, no doubt, hear Justin Timberlake’s “Sexy Back” in my class, she is just as likely to hear Prince’s “Kiss.” I’ve been known to throw into the rotation such 80s hits as Blondie’s “Call Me,” Depeche Mode’s “Just Can’t Get Enough,” and even Irene Cara’s “What a Feeling,” just as much as I’ve been known to play Tupac, Jay-Z, David Bowie, Beatles, Daft Punk, Black Keys, and, yes, dare I say it, even Britney Spears and Miley Cyrus.

MY FAVORITE ARTIST AND WHY:

The unanswerable question. For years, I would listen only to punk, rejecting all other music in fear it would destroy my self-perceived “punk rock cred.” I have matured since that time, and love to rock my socks off to pop music, because, well, it’s just fun, especially to dance to-and I do love to dance. In more recent years, I have become quite the fan of electronic music, in particular, the house and deep house sub genres. My favorite DJs at the moment include, Disclosure, Tensnake, Skream, Joris Voorn, Hot Since 82, Maceo Plex, Jeremy Olander and Nom De Strip…to name a few, although I remain a loyal fan of anything and everything Nick Cave. My guiltiest of guilty pleasures is most definitely Justin Timberlake, and I will secretly listen to J.T. when nobody’s around.

IN MY FREE TIME YOU’LL FIND ME:

Free time. What’s that? Mainly, I love nothing more than spending what little free time I do have with my friends, whether it be watching hockey games together, going to see live music, or simply grabbing dinner and/or a drink. I am so, so very fortunate to be surrounded by a group of the most supportive and good-hearted human beings who tremendously enrich my life and for whom I am extremely grateful.

WHAT I LOVE ABOUT TEACHING:

I tutored from the time I was 16 to the time I was 23, taught yoga since I was 17, and taught spin since I was 22. Ostensibly, I have been teaching my entire adult life. There is something so exceptionally rewarding about being part of another human being’s growth. Whether it’s merely leading someone through a spin class and contributing to her/his health, or helping someone through an emotionally arduous time by guiding her/him through a yoga practice or spin class, or watching someone finally accomplish a physical goal toward which she/he has been working, I derive such tremendous fulfillment from helping others transcend their physical and emotional limitations.

MY FRIENDS CALL ME:

“Mom.” It’s sort of a joke, but they note that I have a nurturing and maternal nature…and an insatiable need to feed everyone…
